Carrie A.
HERSCHMAN

Carrie has successfully prosecuted claims for unpaid wages, race discrimination, religious discrimination and gender discrimination, obtaining favorable results for her clients in and out of court. She has extensive experience representing individuals in all aspects of proceedings before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) and the Illinois Department of Human Rights (IDHR). Carrie is particularly knowledgeable about restrictive covenants and fiduciary duties. She is the rare employment lawyer who also practices traditional labor law in both the federal and public sectors. Carrie believes that alternative dispute resolution should occur before, rather than after, litigation begins. When litigation is necessary she is all in. As a former union lawyer, Carrie considers four lawyers litigating against her a fair fight.

Carrie particularly enjoys counseling and coaching executives, including negotiating employment contracts and, when necessary, severance packages. She firmly believes in teaching her clients executive advocacy - how to be their own best advocates.

Additionally, Carrie serves as employment counsel for her longtime business clients in an array of industries including staffing, car dealerships and restaurants.

Super Lawyers Magazine named her a Super Lawyer in Illinois in 2016-2022 in the field of labor and employment law.  In prior years, she was named a “Rising Star” by Illinois Super Lawyers (2010, 2012-2015).  Leading Lawyers named her an Emerging Lawyer in 2016 and 2017.    She is the immediate past president of NELA/Illinois, where she currently serves as a Board member. She has previously served as a Board Member on the AFL-CIO’s Lawyer Coordinating Committee.

Carrie is licensed to practice in New York and Illinois.  She graduated from the University of Illinois College of Law, cum laude, in 2004, and holds a BSJ from Northwestern University.
